First things first…

I think a few friends would say that I have a slightly incurable obsession with the First Lady of the White House, Michelle Obama. And it goes far beyond the fact that she is the first black woman to officially become ‘First Lady’. I have tried as much as possible to keep my rationale concise and it was difficult given that this woman has unequivocally defied what it traditionally means to be a ‘First Lady’. But I think I have succeeded in capturing the essence of the First Lady. So here is to Michelle Obama; the unsung hero of the 2012 elections…

Michelle Obama is a Harvard Law School Graduate and without a doubt, embodies the perfect blend of beauty and brains. Not only is she a fashion icon but she also went on to carve out a successful career by becoming an associate at the prestigious law firm, Sidley Austin.

Never one to get lost in the shadows of her husband, she has clearly stepped out into her own spotlight. Michelle is a political asset that should not be underestimated. She offers insightful and well-informed intelligent opinions on a number of timely issues thus showing that she is more than a ‘Trophy Wife.’ Recent polls suggest that Michelle in fact has higher approval ratings than that of her husband.

Her determination to end childhood obesity and her commitment to military families also makes Michelle stand miles apart from her comrades. She has made it her personal responsibility to educate families on the benefits of healthy eating in order to bring down the high levels of obesity that has become rife stateside. Above all, what clearly stands out about Michelle is her commitment to her family; she has constantly reiterated that she has a personal agenda first and foremost of ensuring that her two daughters, Malia and Sasha remain grounded. Secondly, she remains the  safe house, sounding board and pillar for her husband Barack Obama. Need I say more? Michelle is the ultimate boss lady, clearly showing the importance of having something more than beauty to bring to the table…Michelle, we salute you.
