Something Borrowed – Passing key information from one generation of successful women to the next.
One of the most important lessons that my mother gave me very early on in life was to ‘walk tall and believe in myself and my capabilities but always depend on God.’ This is something that has resonated in my mind even up until this very day. I have passed this information onto my niece, mentees and friends. I think it is crucial that women share their positive experiences and/or failures in order to inspire the generation of women coming up after them; this is exactly what ‘Something Borrowed’ is all about.
The event has been coined ‘Something Borrowed’ because it has been likened to that critical moment when a young woman is about to go off and embark on that all important ‘journey’ in life. The mother relays to the young woman those infamous words ‘something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.’ The thing that is borrowed is often a keepsake; something that has been passed on from generation to generation within the lineage of the woman. This is the aim of Something Borrowed. We want key information, advice and tips to be passed on from one generation of successful women to the next. It should be a natural succession so eventually the women that will be impacted in this generation, will pass the information onto the next generation of women coming up behind them.
